Alcohol Use Disorder

What is Alcohol Use Disorder?

Alcohol use disorder (AUD) is a chronic (lifelong) medical condition involving frequent or heavy alcohol use. People with AUD might want to stop drinking but find it hard to quit due to cravings, even if it causes problems or hurts them or others.

Some patients with AUD feel:

  • anxiety

  • agitation (getting upset easily)

  • restlessness (can't sit still)

  • insomnia

  • tremor (shaky hands)

  • diaphoresis (sweating a lot)

  • palpitations (heart racing)

  • nausea (feeling like you want to throw up)

  • vomiting

  • alcohol craving

  • loss of appetite

I think I might have AUD. What can be done?

An expert doctor in AUD will meet with you in a private office to get to know you better. We may recommend Medication Assisted Therapy (MAT), some of which can be done in the comfort of your home.

What types of Medication Assisted Therapy options are offered?

  • Oral medication therapy tailored to your needs (many options available)

  • Injection medication therapy (like Naltrexone)
